2009 Harrogate in Bloom summer garden competitions

Residential community category

Well-kept communal gardens are very important spaces, contributing greatly to the community spirit as well as being a positive feature in the local area. All styles of garden are equally welcome, from traditional hanging baskets, window boxes or containers of bedding plants to well-designed contemporary green spaces.

Closing date for entries: Monday 29 June

Judging will take place between 13 – 26 July

A trophy will be presented to the overall category winner, but all entrants are eligible for a Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver or Bronze award or a Certificate of Merit – so in theory, everyone (or indeed no-one!) could win a gold.

Judges will be looking for:
- a good first impression and overall design
- planting which is appropriate in colour and scale to the surroundings, with summer interest
- containers (if any) of appropriate size and style
- paving, paths etc (if any) which complement the surroundings and are well maintained
- plants which are in good condition, apparently disease free and well maintained (dead-headed, watered, pruned, etc)
- the whole area should be well swept & litter free

Any resident wishing to enter their individual space – balcony, patio or private garden area - can enter the separate individual garden category. Please print the appropriate form
