6 October
2022
At the Yorkshire in Bloom Awards in Tadcaster, Harrogate in Bloom and Harrogate BiD both achieved a Gold Medal and were Category Winners.
Harrogate in Bloom achieved a Gold Medal and was category winner in the Small City category. Pam Grant, President of Harrogate in Bloom, was delighted with the result and thanked everyone who contributed to Harrogate's 'In Bloom' bid. The judge noted that "Team Harrogate comprises a great number of volunteers carrying out a diverse range of work. Every group considered the reuse of materials, composting and working on the right type of plant for the right place." The judge was impressed by the recent improvements and positive environmental elements at Horticap, specifically the solar panels, wind turbine and bore hole and he said that "Horticap now has the building and facilities it deserves for the work it carries out."
Harrogate BiD achieved a Gold Medal and were category winners in the BID / Town or City Centre Category. The judge's feedback said "The BiD successfully enhances the floral offering with 120 extra hanging baskets and around 190 planters. In terms of promotion the Harrogate Summer of Floral Celebrations builds on the towns numerous floral events, from the planting in town to shows and gardens in Harrogate. A flower themed trail supported by props and QR codes encourages visitors to walk through
the town and understand something of the history of the place."
Congratulations also go to Starbeck in Bloom and Knaresborough in Bloom who both achieved a Gold Medal, Harrogate's Valley Gardens received a platinum award and Ripon in Bloom who achieved Silver Gilt.
Well done to all our local community groups and to the team at Harrogate Borough Council - here's to further success in 2023!
